In the early morning hours of August 15, 2020, the life of 18-year-old Jason Ke'Von Lottie was tragically cut short in South Bend, Indiana. A passerby discovered his body lying in the street in the 1700 block of Woodmont Drive and alerted the police shortly before 2:00 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jason Lottie deceased, having sustained at least one gunshot wound. The St.
Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was subsequently called in to take over the investigation into the apparent shooting.
Jason, a Black male, was remembered as a kind and loving individual with a promising future ahead of him. He had recently graduated from John Adams High School, obtained his GED in 2019, and earned a welding certification in 2020. Showing a commitment to service, he had enlisted in the U.S. Army and was scheduled to deploy in September 2020. He enjoyed cooking, being with his family, and was adored by his nieces. His sudden death sent shockwaves through his community, leaving his family and friends devastated and searching for answers. A funeral service to celebrate his life was held on August 22, 2020, at Greater St. Mathews Church in South Bend.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit, no arrests have been made in connection with Jason Lottie's murder, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward and contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers. The lack of leads has been a source of continued pain for his loved ones, who are still seeking justice for his untimely death. In a tragic turn of events, Jason's father, Ikeelee Lottie, also became a victim of gun violence and was murdered in December 2022.
