In the winter of 2020, a domestic dispute in South Bend, Indiana, escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 29-year-old Juan Luis Garcia. A Hispanic male, Garcia was shot and killed on the afternoon of February 12th in the vicinity of Dubail and Grant streets. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The events leading to Garcia's death began to unfold earlier that day with a domestic
altercation involving his ex-wife. Later, around 3 p.m., the simmering tensions erupted. Garcia's ex-wife, accompanied by her current boyfriend, Larry Deandre McLucas, and two children, arrived at a bus stop in the area to pick up another child. An argument broke out between Garcia and McLucas, which tragically concluded with McLucas allegedly shooting Garcia twice.
Following the shooting, the 35-year-old McLucas fled the scene but was apprehended by South Bend police a few blocks away. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation.
Prosecutors formally charged Larry Deandre McLucas with murder and carrying a handgun without a license. He also faced a firearm enhancement charge, which could lead to a significantly longer sentence if convicted. McLucas was scheduled for arraignment as the legal process against him commenced.
