On a cold Tuesday evening in East Chicago, Indiana, the sound of gunfire shattered the winter quiet. On December 15, 2020, at approximately 5:54 PM, police responded to a call of shots fired at an apartment building on Guthrie Street. There, they discovered a grim scene. Seventeen-year-old Jayden Brown, a male resident of East Chicago, was found unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of the building.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Inside one of the apartments, the violence had left its mark on two other male victims. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds but were found conscious and breathing. They were rushed to local hospitals in critical condition before being transferred to a Chicago hospital for further treatment.
