In the winter of 2021, the life of 72-year-old Russell Peed, a male resident of Indianapolis, was brought to a tragic and abrupt end. On the evening of January 2nd, police were called to a home in the 2000 block of North Alabama Street following reports of a shooting. Inside the residence, they discovered Mr. Peed, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide quickly focused on a familial connection. The victim's wife, who was present in the house at the time of the incident, informed authorities that Russell Peed's nephew, Robert Dillinger, was the perpetrator. According to her account, she had briefly gone to another part of the house when she heard the sound of two gunshots. Upon returning, she witnessed Dillinger fleeing the scene, leaving her husband shot in his chair.
Following the investigation, Robert Dillinger was arrested and charged with the murder of his uncle. In May 2023, after a two-day jury trial, Dillinger was convicted of the crime. Subsequently, he was sentenced to 55 years in prison for the murder of Russell Peed, bringing a measure of judicial closure to the family for their loss.
