Theothus 'Man-Man' Carter, Jr., a 16-year-old male, was fatally wounded on the night of August 13, 2016. The incident occurred at a Conoco gas station in the city, where he was shot. His death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who gathered to celebrate his life later that month at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church before he was laid to rest at Sutherland Park Cemetery.
Theothus's death was not only a tragedy for his immediate family but also a poignant chapter in a larger, more complex story. His father, Theothus Carter Sr., was incarcerated at the time of his son's death, serving a lengthy sentence for attempted murder and other charges. Just two weeks before the fatal shooting, the younger Carter had the unique experience of visiting his father on the set of a film being shot inside Pendleton Correctional Facility. The film, titled 'O.G.,' featured his father in a significant role, a source of pride for the teenager.
