On the night of August 13, 2016, Theothus L. Carter, age 16, was fatally shot at a Conoco gas station in Indianapolis. The incident occurred just before 10:15 p.m. on the city’s east side, where Carter and a family friend had stopped. A tragic voicemail Carter left as he was dying, discovered later by his mother, highlighted the heartbreak his family endured. His mother, Talishia, expressed her immense grief, describing him as her only child, full of life, humor, and love.
