In the early morning hours of January 25, 2021, the life of 25-year-old De’rell Davontae Lamar Brown was tragically cut short. The young man, a resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, was found shot outside his own apartment in the Stonebrook Commons complex, located near the intersection of 30th Street and German Church Road on the city's east side. The incident was reported to metro police at approximately 2 a.m.
De'rell, a graduate of Lawrence North High School where he played football,
was a father to a young daughter who was just one year old at the time of his death. After high school, he served in the military. He was described by his family as a good person who was always willing to help others. In the days leading up to his death, he had just purchased a used car and had gone grocery shopping with his mother, with whom he communicated daily. His death left his family, including his parents and siblings, devastated and searching for answers.
Despite the passage of time, the case of De’rell Brown’s murder remains unsolved, one of hundreds of such cases in Indianapolis. His family has made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward and help bring his killer to justice. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has investigated the case, which has reportedly been assigned to a new detective, but as of now, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. His mother continues to advocate for closure, expressing her desire to see the person responsible held accountable for their actions.
