On the evening of March 7, 2022, a sense of youthful normalcy turned tragic for 14-year-old Da’Vonta White, a male student in the MSD of Warren Township. He and his 15-year-old friend, Isaiah Jackson, were at Dubarry Park on the northeast side of Indianapolis. Shortly after 9:30 p.m., the sounds of gunfire shattered the evening quiet. Responding to the scene, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers first located Isaiah Jackson in the parking lot; he had been shot and was
pronounced dead. A short time later, officers found Da’Vonta in a grassy area of the park, also a victim of fatal gunshot wounds.
The double homicide plunged two families into an unimaginable nightmare. Da'Vonta's mother, Shaquana White, and other family members made emotional pleas to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. They remembered Da'Vonta as a typical teenager who enjoyed playing video games. In the days following the shooting, community members gathered for a balloon release to honor the memories of the two slain friends. Investigators worked to piece together the events of that night, seeking to understand why the two teenagers were at the park and who they were with.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the family's public calls for justice, the case grew cold. For nearly two years, no arrests were made, and no suspects were publicly identified, leaving a void of unanswered questions. By February 2024, a significant development in the investigation emerged. Law enforcement sources indicated they believed the shooting was the result of a gun deal that had gone awry. It was also reported that investigators had a strong idea of who the perpetrators were and had submitted their findings to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office for review and potential criminal charges. However, there has been no subsequent public announcement of any arrests, charges, or convictions in connection with the deaths of Da’Vonta White and Isaiah Jackson, and their case officially remains unsolved.
