On the Fourth of July in 2017, Leroy Ruffin, a 57-year-old male, was found deceased in Indianapolis. The cause of his death was determined to be a gunshot wound.

Initial reports from law enforcement indicated that they were treating the case as a homicide investigation. Authorities were called to the scene where Ruffin's body was discovered on the city's east side. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death began immediately following the discovery.
