In the summer of 2017, the life of 25-year-old Mark Secrest Jr. was tragically cut short in a brutal double homicide in Indianapolis. On the morning of July 12, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting on the city's northeast side, near the intersection of East 30th Street and Caroline Avenue. Upon their arrival before 11:30 a.m., they discovered a grim scene.
One man was found deceased inside a residence, while another lay lifeless outside the home in the 2900 block of Caroline Avenue.
The victims were later identified as Mark Secrest Jr. and 27-year-old John Easley. Secrest, known affectionately by nicknames such as 'Meezy' and 'Lil Mark,' was remembered as a loving father to his young daughter, as well as a son, cousin, grandson, and uncle. Those who knew him described him as goofy, blunt, outgoing, and real. His death left a profound void in the lives of his family and friends.
The investigation into the murders of Secrest and Easley proved to be challenging for law enforcement.
