On the west side of Indianapolis, in the 100 block of South Belmont Avenue, a grim discovery was made on the evening of February 27, 2024. Inside a residence, police found 40-year-old Randy Wayne White, a male who had sustained fatal injuries. Initially described as traumatic injuries, it was later clarified that he had been shot. Despite the efforts of medical responders, White was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into White's death quickly focused on a person from his
past, his 27-year-old former roommate, Alexander Cross. Within two days of the killing, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit had taken Cross into custody. A significant and unusual piece of evidence that played a crucial role in identifying Cross as the suspect was gold spray paint.
Thanks to the cooperation of the community, investigators were able to piece together the events leading to White's death and identify Cross as the alleged shooter. Cross was subsequently arrested and is facing a preliminary charge of murder in connection with the shooting death of his former roommate. As the case proceeds through the judicial system, Alexander Cross remains in custody. The final decision on charges will be made by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
