In the early morning hours of July 30, 2017, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the life of 35-year-old Erodney Davis was tragically cut short. A Black male, Davis was found fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 2100 block of Shelburne Drive. The incident was one of several violent deaths that marked a grim weekend in the city.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives began an investigation into the shooting.
In the course of their inquiries, they discovered Davis's red Chevrolet Impala, which had been set on fire and abandoned in another apartment complex in the 2000 block of Manchester Lane, not far from where his body was discovered. This added a troubling layer to the circumstances surrounding his death.
A significant lead in the case emerged in the form of security footage from an IHOP restaurant in the 6900 block of West 38th Street. The images captured Erodney Davis in the company of another individual, who was subsequently labeled a 'person of interest' by the authorities. In the footage, Davis was seen wearing a red shirt and shorts. The person of interest was described as a heavyset Black male wearing a tan or grey hat, a grey shirt, a thick gold chain, and blue jeans. The police publicly released these images in the hopes of identifying the man seen with Davis.
Despite the release of the security footage and the public appeal for information, the case has grown cold over the years. No arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Erodney Davis, and the identity of the 'person of interest' remains unknown to the public. The investigation into his death is still considered ongoing, leaving his family and community searching for answers and justice.
