In a tragic turn of events on January 30, 2021, 24-year-old Karen Melissa Galvez-Hernandez was found deceased in her Indianapolis home. The grim discovery was made after police were dispatched for a welfare check at the residence located in the 6800 block of Mimosa Lane.
The events that led authorities to her home began with a chilling phone call. Gabriel Galvez Roblero, the husband of the victim, contacted his ex-wife and confessed to killing his current wife, Karen.
During this conversation, he also indicated that he was fleeing and intended to harm himself. After unsuccessful attempts to persuade him to turn himself in, his ex-wife promptly alerted the authorities by calling 911.
Upon their arrival, officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found Karen Melissa Galvez-Hernandez inside the residence, having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators at the scene recovered seven fired cartridge casings. With information about Galvez Roblero's vehicle disseminated to other law enforcement agencies, he was located and apprehended by the Arkansas State Police. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a firearm that was later confirmed to be a match to the casings found at the scene of the murder.
Following his arrest, Gabriel Galvez Roblero was charged with the murder of his wife. After a four-day jury trial in October 2023, he was found guilty. On December 15, 2023, he was sentenced to 65 years in prison for the murder of Karen Hernandez. The case was highlighted by the Marion County Prosecutor as a devastating instance of intimate partner violence.
