In a tragic turn of events stemming from a dispute over a stimulus check, 44-year-old Tomeeka Brown, a female from Indianapolis, Indiana, was killed on March 13, 2021. The argument, which began over a desire for a share of a COVID-19 relief payment, escalated into a quadruple homicide. The incident unfolded inside a residence on North Randolph Street.
The perpetrator, Malik Halfacre, became embroiled in a heated argument with his girlfriend, Jeanettrius Moore, because he wanted a portion
of her stimulus money. Following the initial confrontation, Halfacre left the home, only to return with a firearm. He then opened fire, fatally shooting Tomeeka Brown, along with Anthony Johnson, 35, Dequan Moore, 23, and 7-year-old Eve Moore. Jeanettrius Moore was also shot and critically wounded but managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor.
After the shootings, Halfacre fled the scene, taking his and Jeanettrius Moore's infant daughter with him, as well as money and other personal items. The baby was later found unharmed at a family member's home. A manhunt for Halfacre ensued, leading to a standoff with a SWAT team at another residence where he was eventually found hiding in the attic and taken into custody.
Malik Halfacre was subsequently charged with four counts of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and vehicle theft. In June 2024, he pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. For his crimes, he was sentenced to 145 years in prison. The Marion County Prosecutor's office had considered pursuing the death penalty due to the multiple victims, the robbery, and the death of a child, but ultimately a lengthy prison sentence was secured.
