On the night of Friday, June 18, 2021, Montana was hosting a party at his home in the 1300 block of West Abbott Street in Muncie, Indiana. The gathering grew loud enough to warrant a visit from the police, who instructed him to quiet things down before leaving without shutting down the party or making any arrests.
The revelry, however, took a dark and violent turn in the early hours of the following morning. Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, law enforcement was once again dispatched to the residence, this time in response to a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Montana Lopez inside his home, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. Medics were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The lively party had devolved into a scene of carnage, leaving friends and family to grapple with the sudden and senseless loss of a young man with a promising future.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of a 15-year-old male suspect.
