Jamarvyan Brewer, a 20-year-old male, was enjoying the Fourth of July in 2021 when his life was tragically cut short in a shooting at an apartment complex in Lawrence, a suburb of Indianapolis. On that Sunday evening, just after 5 p.m., police were dispatched to the 4200 block of Bridle Lane, near 42nd Street and Franklin Road, following a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered Brewer suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
At the scene of the shooting, Lawrence police took a 19-year-old male into custody as a suspect in the incident. However, this individual was later released from custody pending additional investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brewer's death. Authorities stated their belief that the shooting was an isolated incident and not a random act of violence. The name of the person of interest has not been publicly released, and there have been no subsequent announcements of charges or a conviction in the case.

Compounding the tragedy for his family, Jamarvyan's death came just under three weeks after his cousin, Keleante Brewer, was also shot and killed in a separate incident on the city's northeast side. Friends and family remembered Jamarvyan as an intelligent and caring young man with a strong love for sports and video games. He was known for his infectious smile that could light up a room and his playful nature. A graduate of Lawrence Township Schools, he was loved by many in his community.
