On a summer afternoon in Lawrence, a community on the outskirts of Indianapolis, 32-year-old Cameron Anderson was fatally shot on July 5, 2021. The incident unfolded around 1:15 p.m. in the 11300 block of Pendleton Pike, near Sunnyside Road. Anderson, a male, was inside his car when another vehicle approached, and a gunman opened fire.
According to witnesses, a man was seen firing a handgun out of the window of an SUV, aiming at Anderson's car.
The assailant's vehicle then quickly fled the scene. Responding officers from the Lawrence Police Department found Anderson outside of his car with a gunshot wound to his neck. His own vehicle was riddled with multiple bullet holes. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Methodist Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Initial reports from witnesses at the scene suggested there may have been a second person in the car with Anderson who left before police arrived.
The investigation into Cameron Anderson's death led authorities to Sean Dixon. Eyewitnesses provided a description of the shooter that matched Dixon, and some were able to identify him in a photo lineup. Further investigation by detectives uncovered cell phone data that placed Dixon at the location of the shooting at the time it occurred.
Following the investigation, Sean Dixon was arrested and charged with the murder of Cameron Anderson. In May 2024, a jury convicted Dixon for his role in the fatal shooting. Subsequently, in August of the same year, a judge sentenced him to 62 years in prison. During the sentencing, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated that the defendant had 'senselessly took Cameron Anderson's life and put countless others in danger when he opened fire in the middle of the day on one of the city's major throughfares.' Mears also commended the investigators and the cooperating witnesses who came forward, making it possible to secure justice for Anderson.
