In the early morning hours of July 22, 2016, a tragic discovery was made in an Indianapolis apartment that would leave a community in mourning and a family shattered. Cameron M. Baker, a 25-year-old Black male, was found shot and killed inside his residence. The scene was made even more heartbreaking by the presence of his one-year-old daughter, who was found asleep and physically unharmed in the same room.
The violence of that day was not limited to Baker.
Also found deceased in the apartment from fatal gunshot wounds were his partner, 23-year-old Takara Coleman, and an upstairs neighbor, 52-year-old Lisa Woods. The incident was classified as a triple homicide, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department began an extensive investigation. They expressed frustration that while neighbors reported hearing gunshots, about an hour passed before a 911 call was made to check on the welfare of the residents.
In the aftermath, the families of the victims pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to an arrest. Coleman was remembered as a loving mother and a student at Ivy Tech Community College who was striving to build a better life for her daughter. The loss of three lives in such a violent manner sent shockwaves through the community.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the pleas from grieving family members, the case has grown cold. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Cameron Baker, Takara Coleman, and Lisa Woods. The investigation remains open, a painful and unresolved chapter for a family and a city still seeking justice and answers.
