On Thanksgiving Day in 2023, a dispute between two men in an Indianapolis apartment building culminated in a fatal shooting. Ousman Gasama, a 34-year-old male, was found deceased, sitting upright on the entry stoop of a residence on North Shortridge Road. He had sustained gunshot wounds.
The events leading to Gasama's death began with an argument with another man, Efrem Edmondson.
The two had an ongoing feud, and in the days prior to the shooting, Gasama had expressed concerns for his safety. On November 23, 2023, their simmering tensions erupted into a physical altercation, reportedly over a bottle of liquor, which ended with Edmondson fatally shooting Gasama. After the shooting, Edmondson left Gasama on the stoop.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of a person shot at the apartment complex around 8:30 a.m. They discovered Gasama's body and followed a trail of blood back to the apartment where the altercation occurred. Inside, they found four witnesses, blood droplets, and cartridge casings, which became key evidence in the ensuing investigation.
Through witness interviews and further investigation, detectives identified Efrem Edmondson as the primary suspect. He was apprehended a week later. During questioning, Edmondson admitted to his involvement in the shooting and led authorities to the weapon used in the crime. He was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, residential entry, criminal recklessness, intimidation, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. In September 2025, a jury found Efrem Edmondson guilty of murder and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. He was later sentenced to 67 years in prison for his role in the death of Ousman Gasama.
