In the early evening of August 9, 2021, 63-year-old Kenneth Harper was found shot to death on the east side of Indianapolis. The male victim, who was Black/African American, was discovered along the 2800 block of Brookside Avenue shortly before 6:30 p.m. When officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene in response to a report of a person shot, they found Mr.
Harper with a fatal gunshot wound.
The incident was part of a string of violence that plagued the neighborhood that same night. Just forty minutes prior to the discovery of Mr. Harper, another man had been shot and wounded on nearby Tuxedo Street. Later that evening, a third man was critically injured in a shooting that occurred somewhere in the same vicinity.
Despite the area typically having a high volume of traffic, authorities reported that there were no immediate witnesses to the shooting of Kenneth Harper. Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have been handling the case, but no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The investigation into his death remains ongoing as the community continues to be affected by gun violence.
