In the early morning hours of August 26, 2021, a resident of Muncie, Indiana, made a grim discovery while walking his dog. Along a sidewalk on South Madison Street, south of 23rd Street, lay the body of 26-year-old Ranjit Singh. It was apparent that he had been the victim of a fatal shooting. The investigation into the death of Mr. Singh, who was of Southwest Asian descent, quickly took a complex and tragic turn as a series of events began to unfold.
