In the late summer of 2021, the life of 32-year-old Keegan Wolf was tragically cut short in a hotel room on the northwest side of Indianapolis. On the afternoon of September 25, police were called to the Quality Inn & Suites in the 5000 block of Lafayette Road, where they discovered Wolf suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Eskenazi Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The incident that led to his death was described by authorities as a transaction that took a fatal turn.
The investigation into the shooting pointed to Davoncia Beasley, then 24 years old, as the primary suspect. Homicide detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department utilized a combination of witness statements, security footage, social media records, and forensic evidence to place Beasley at the scene of the crime. Witnesses reported seeing Beasley and another individual fleeing the hotel after the shooting. This crucial information led to Beasley's arrest on November 18, 2021, nearly two months after the fatal encounter.
Following his arrest, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Beasley with murder, felony murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. After a two-day trial in late 2022, a jury found Beasley guilty on all counts. The legal proceedings revealed that Beasley had shot and killed Wolf during a robbery. In addition to the primary charges, Beasley was also convicted of a habitual offender sentencing enhancement and a felony firearm enhancement.
In January 2023, Davoncia Beasley was sentenced to 85 years in prison for his role in the death of Keegan Wolf. The sentencing brought a measure of closure to a case that officials highlighted as an example of successful collaboration between law enforcement, prosecutors, and the community. The conviction and lengthy sentence ensured that the man responsible for the violent end to Keegan Wolf's life was held accountable for his actions.
