In the late afternoon of a Tuesday in East Chicago, Indiana, a friend's concern for Jamal D. Loving would unravel a grim discovery. On November 16, 2021, after being unable to reach him, the friend went to Loving's apartment at 3901 Pulaski Street. Upon entering the first-floor unit, a tragic scene came into view. Jamal D. Loving, a 29-year-old Black man, was found deceased in his living room, having suffered gunshot wounds to his head and left forearm.
The East Chicago Police Department
was called to the scene around 4:55 p.m. As investigators processed the apartment, the scope of the violence became even more apparent. In a rear bedroom, they located a second victim, 38-year-old Harold Richardson, who had also been fatally shot in the head. The Lake County Coroner's Office pronounced both men dead at the scene, marking the city's tenth homicide of the year.
The Criminal Investigation Division was tasked with piecing together the events that led to the double homicide. Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the case has grown cold. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Jamal Loving and Harold Richardson. The police have not publicly identified any suspects or persons of interest. The investigation officially remains ongoing, leaving a community and two families waiting for answers and for justice to be served.
