In the early morning hours of March 1, 2022, a grim discovery was made on the east side of Indianapolis. The body of 21-year-old Dai-Ghia Hogan, an African-American female, was found lying in the gravel of a cross-over on westbound Interstate 70, near the German Church Road overpass. Indiana State Police were called to the scene at approximately 7:23 a.m. and upon arrival, medical personnel pronounced her dead.
Investigators immediately treated the case as a homicide.
Court documents would later reveal the brutal nature of her death, describing it as a cold-blooded execution alongside the interstate. The Marion County Coroner's Office was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of death, while police appealed to the public for any information from those who may have been traveling in the area and witnessed any unusual activity.
The investigation led police to a suspect, and in May 2022, an arrest was made. Jason Rhea, a 45-year-old from Indianapolis, was taken into custody in connection with Hogan's death. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Rhea with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Following the arrest, the case was turned over to the prosecutor's office to move forward with the legal proceedings.
