On October 31, 2024, 27-year-old James Perez was fatally shot at the Vancouver Mall in Vancouver, Washington. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. near the mall's food court during a family-friendly trick-or-treating event. According to court documents, 32-year-old Travis Ward, wearing a full-size "Joker" mask, followed Perez through the mall before shooting him in the back of the head at point-blank range.
