Octavio "Chico" Martinez, a 32-year-old male, was killed on August 8, 1962, in Rockford, Illinois. On the night of his death, Martinez had been at the Town Lounge located at 600 West State Street, alongside Ann Emily Bergman, an 18-year-old. The two had participated in and won a dance contest. As they were leaving the lounge at around 12:55 a.m., they were approached by an unknown suspect or suspects, and Martinez and Bergman were taken against their will.
