Ethan Austin, a 19-year-old male from Rockford, Illinois, tragically lost his life on May 9, 2025, as a result of a gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 12:20 a.m., during a violent altercation in the parking lot of Broadway Food & Liquor, located at 2710 Broadway. Following the shooting, Austin was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle, where he received medical attention.
Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m.
Authorities launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Austin’s death, and the Rockford Police Department’s Violent Crime and Gang Detectives worked to identify a suspect. Their efforts led to the arrest of 40-year-old Andre Moreland, who was apprehended later that same day in the 3200 block of Maryland Road. Moreland was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and subsequently charged with first-degree murder. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and authorized the charges against Moreland.
At this time, law enforcement officials continue to seek additional information regarding the incident. The Rockford Police Department has urged anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist in the investigation. The case remains active, and further legal proceedings are expected as authorities work to bring justice for Ethan Austin.
