On Sunday, June 16, 2024, at approximately 10:03 p.m., Rockford Police officers responded to 3725 East State Street in Rockford, Illinois, following reports of numerous gunshots. Simultaneously, officers were dispatched to the East State/Fairview area where a vehicle had struck a building at 3415 East State Street. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the San Jose Restaurant, where an altercation led to an exchange of gunfire.
Victor Mario Ballesteros, a 40-year-old resident of Loves Park, was one of the victims in this shooting. He succumbed to his injuries, as confirmed by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office. Another victim, a 19-year-old man, was also critically injured and taken to a local hospital.
Victor Ballesteros was a loving husband to his wife, Maryann Ballesteros, and a devoted father to his three children: Victor Ballesteros, Adrien Ballesteros, and Amariana Ballesteros. He was also a proud grandfather to several grandchildren. Known for his kindhearted nature, Victor was a hard worker and co-owner of Speedy Auto Care and Speedy Auto Sales, which he built with his wife. He was actively involved in community volunteer work and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community.
As of the current date, the Rockford Police Department is conducting a murder investigation into the shooting. The police are seeking any information regarding the incident and have encouraged the public to provide anonymous tips. A person of interest has been identified through photos, but no arrests or further details on suspects have been publicly disclosed.
A memorial service for Victor Ballesteros was held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois.
