Teon Rashawn Hill, a 28-year-old African American male, was tragically shot to death on August 8, 2019, in his home at 727 Bruce Street, Rockford, Illinois. Teon Hill and his wife, Christina Langston-Hill, were both victims of this fatal shooting. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m., and it was later revealed that the motive behind the murders was to prevent the couple from testifying in a court case.
Kelvin Langston, the brother of Christina Langston-Hill, was charged with the
murders. Kelvin Langston, 32 years old at the time of his arrest, faced multiple charges, including 13 counts of First Degree Murder and 3 counts of Home Invasion. The prosecution argued that Langston's motive was to silence his sister and her husband, who were potential witnesses against him in a separate case involving animal cruelty and weapons charges. Langston had previously been charged with shooting and killing his sister's dog about a month before the murders, and he had taken a plea deal in that case.
Despite the serious charges, the case against Kelvin Langston faced significant challenges. On July 5, 2023, the murder charges were dropped due to the inability to locate witnesses willing to testify. Six witnesses contacted by the state refused to testify, leading to the dismissal of the charges. Langston had been in jail since 2019 and was sentenced to serve 7 years for the animal cruelty charge and 4 years for the weapons charge, to be served consecutively. He received credit for time served.
Another individual, Douglas Hollyfield, 30 years old, was also arrested in connection with the case. Hollyfield faced charges of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and having a revoked Firearm Owners Identification. He was held at the Winnebago County Jail, with his next court date set for November 8, 2023.
