In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Gary, Indiana, the vibrant atmosphere inside Playo's Nightclub was shattered by a burst of gunfire that left two people dead and four others wounded. Among the deceased was Jonte Dorsey, a 34-year-old man from Joliet, Illinois. The tragic incident unfolded on June 12, 2022, marking a grim day for the community.
Just before 2 a.m., chaos erupted at the nightclub located in the 1700 block of Grant Street.
Witnesses reported hearing as many as 30 to 50 gunshots, sending patrons scrambling for cover. In the ensuing panic, Jonte Dorsey was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds near the entryway of the club. Another victim, 26-year-old Jah'Nice Quinn of Merrillville, was discovered unresponsive inside the establishment. Both Dorsey and Quinn were rushed to a local hospital, but their injuries proved fatal, and they were pronounced dead.
The shooting also left four other individuals injured, with one reported to be in critical condition.
