Lyman Wesley Bostock Jr., a promising Major League Baseball outfielder, tragically lost his life on September 23, 1978, in Gary, Indiana. Bostock, who played for the California Angels at the time, had just finished a game against the Chicago White Sox earlier that day. He was visiting his uncle in Gary when the incident occurred. While riding in the backseat of his uncle's car, a man approached the vehicle and fired a shotgun blast, fatally wounding Bostock.
