On June 9, 2023, in Gary, Indiana, Darius Sims was fatally shot during a domestic dispute. The incident occurred in the 2500 block of Madison Street, where Sims was attempting to evict a woman and her children in the middle of the night. An argument ensued between Sims and the children's father, Dyequan Kizer, culminating in Kizer shooting Sims. Sims, an adult male, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
