On a Memorial Day evening in Gary, Indiana, the life of 32-year-old Mario Moody was tragically cut short. On Monday, May 29, 2017, police responded to a call on the 600 block of Hanley Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. There, they discovered Moody, a male resident of the city, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The Lake County coroner swiftly ruled his death a homicide.
Known to his loved ones as 'Yobe,' Mario Moody was born on February 18, 1985, in Chicago, Illinois, and had later made his home in Gary. At the time of his death, he was a father to five children: Alexia, Kamarion, Makala, Mariyah, and Makayla. His passing left a deep void in the lives of his children, his father, siblings, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who mourned the sudden and violent loss.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Gary Police Department and the Lake County/Gary Metro Homicide Unit launched an investigation. Authorities publicly appealed for information, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and contact Detective Kristopher Adams. However, despite these efforts, there have been no publicly reported arrests made in connection with the murder of Mario Moody. The case remains unresolved, with no suspects having been publicly identified or charged in his killing. The community was left searching for answers that have not been forthcoming in the years since his death.
