On the night of July 11, 2022, violence erupted at the Blackburn Terrace apartment complex on the near-northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of 22-year-old Gregory Stewart. A Black / African American male, Stewart was on the sidewalk outside a residential building when a disturbance broke out just after 9:00 p.m. The situation quickly escalated into a barrage of gunfire, leaving Stewart with fatal injuries.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene on Brouse Avenue,
but Stewart did not survive the shooting. The incident marked the fourth homicide at the troubled apartment complex in less than two years, prompting frustration and fear among neighbors who described feeling unsafe in their own homes. At the time of the shooting, property management noted that surveillance cameras in the area were inoperable, hindering the initial collection of evidence.
As of the immediate aftermath, investigators had not identified a specific suspect, and no arrests were reported in connection with Stewart's death.
