On the afternoon of January 3, 2022, a violent incident unfolded on the far east side of Indianapolis, Indiana, resulting in the death of a young man. Around 2:00 p.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1600 block of Fogelson Drive, located near the intersection of East 21st Street and German Church Road.
The emergency response was initiated following reports that a person had been shot in the residential neighborhood.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered 19-year-old Julian Rayner outside the home, suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was found in critical condition, and emergency medical personnel immediately transported him to IU Health Methodist Hospital for urgent trauma care. Despite the efforts of medical staff, the injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the facility. The Marion County Coroner’s Office subsequently identified the victim and confirmed the cause of death as a homicide.
Homicide detectives assumed control of the investigation, canvassing the area for potential witnesses and evidence. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement officials did not release specific details regarding a motive or the events leading up to the gunfire. Public reports from the time indicated that no suspects had been identified or taken into custody, and investigators urged anyone with information about the case to contact the department or Crime Stoppers.
