On November 27, 2016, 45-year-old Timothy Larry 'Tim' Poole was tragically killed in a violent shooting in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident occurred while Poole was sitting in his parked Dodge Charger in the 2200 block of Avondale Place, a residential area near Martin University. As he sat in the vehicle, a silver or gray Chevrolet Impala pulled up alongside him. Occupants of the Impala opened fire, striking Poole multiple times.
A female passenger was also in the car with Poole at the time of the ambush but managed to survive the attack without sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Despite being critically wounded, Poole attempted to flee the scene, managing to drive his vehicle several blocks away to the intersection of 34th Street and Dearborn Street before succumbing to his injuries. First responders arrived to find him unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The shooting left his family, including his children and siblings, devastated and searching for answers. The brazen nature of the attack, occurring in broad daylight, shocked the local community and launched an immediate homicide investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
In the years following the murder, detectives struggled to identify the individuals responsible. Investigators released surveillance footage obtained from a nearby security camera that captured the suspect vehicle, described as a gray Chevy Impala, trailing Poole's car just moments before the shooting. The video showed the Impala following Poole’s Charger into a driveway before the shots were fired. Despite this evidence and the presence of a surviving witness in the passenger seat, the case eventually went cold due to a lack of cooperating leads or suspect identification.
Frustrated by the lack of progress, Poole's family took matters into their own hands to keep his memory alive and generate tips. Two years after his death, they pooled their resources to rent a billboard at the corner of 34th Street and Sherman Drive, featuring his photo and a plea for information asking, 'Who Murdered Tim Poo?' As of the most recent reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Timothy Larry Poole, and the case remains an unsolved homicide. While other individuals with similar names have been arrested in Indianapolis for unrelated crimes in subsequent years, none have been linked to the 2016 murder of Tim Poole.
