On the night of Friday, April 26th, a driver discovered Woods lying in the street in the area of 29th and Ralson Avenue. He had been shot multiple times and was found next to his bicycle. Despite his critical injuries, Woods was conscious enough to speak with the witness who found him, reportedly asking them to call his brother.
Emergency services transported Woods to a local hospital, where he fought for his life for two days. Sadly, on Monday, April 29, 2024, Robert Lewis Woods succumbed to his injuries. His family was left reeling from the sudden and violent loss of a man they described as a joyful person who was always smiling and laughing. They expressed that he generally kept to himself, which made the circumstances of his death all the more puzzling to them.
In the wake of the shooting, Woods's family made a public plea for justice, calling on the person responsible to come forward. As of early May 2024, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide.
