In the summer of 2022, the life of 28-year-old Tyshawn Carter was tragically cut short in Bloomington, Indiana. In the early morning hours of July 27, 2022, an argument inside the Kinser Flats Apartments escalated to fatal violence. It was there that Carter was shot in the head and killed.
The Bloomington Police Department responded to a call about a deceased person at the apartment complex at 4:50 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Carter in a bedroom with a gunshot wound.
Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Eyewitness accounts and security camera footage pointed to Kendrick Q. Webb as the man who had engaged in a heated dispute with Carter. The confrontation culminated with Webb pulling out a handgun and shooting Carter. Following the shooting, Webb allegedly threatened a woman who was present, telling her to remain silent before he fled the state.
An investigation was launched, and with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, law enforcement tracked Webb to an apartment in Melrose Park, Illinois. He was apprehended two weeks after the shooting on August 10, 2022. Webb was arrested on a warrant for murder and was also found to be wanted for another murder in Georgia. He was initially held in Cook County Jail in Chicago before being extradited to Monroe County, Indiana, to face charges for Carter's death.
Ultimately, Kendrick Webb pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, a Level 2 felony, in a plea agreement. A separate charge for illegal possession of a firearm was dismissed as part of this agreement. A Monroe County judge sentenced Webb to 28 years in prison for the killing of Tyshawn Carter. At the time of his sentencing, Webb was given credit for the two years and three months he had already served in custody.
