In the late hours of a Wednesday evening, the sense of peace in a Bloomington, Indiana apartment complex was shattered by an act of violence that claimed the life of Thomas M. Pleasant Jr. A 28-year-old white male, Pleasant was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, having started his own business, Tom's Green Cleaning. He was a father and was described by his family as a go-getter with a great sense of humor who often put others before himself.
On the night of July 22, 2020, in the parking lot of an apartment complex situated in the 3200 block of South Walnut Springs Drive, Thomas Pleasant was shot in the neck. The Bloomington Police Department received a call about the shooting at approximately 11:25 p.m. and officers arrived to find Pleasant critically injured. Emergency medical services were rendered at the scene, and he was quickly transported to IU Health-Bloomington Hospital. Despite the efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on July 23, 2020.
The Bloomington Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Pleasant's death.
