In a tragic turn of events, 22-year-old Cameron Ray Black was found deceased on December 22, 2021, in a Bloomington, Indiana apartment. Alongside him was 21-year-old Sara Gilbert, also of Bloomington. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The discovery was made at the Millennium Apartments after sheriff's deputies were called to the scene.
Subsequent investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department led the coroner's office to rule the deaths a murder-suicide.
Authorities believe that Black was the perpetrator in the incident. A Glock 9mm handgun was recovered near his body. Investigators determined this to be an isolated event and were not searching for any other suspects. Consequently, no arrests were made in connection with the case.
Reports indicated that the couple had been experiencing relationship difficulties. Gilbert had reportedly moved out of the apartment the day before the incident but had returned later that same day. Autopsies confirmed that both individuals died from gunshot wounds.
Cameron Black, born on March 11, 1999, was a recent graduate of Indiana University, having earned a degree in Neuroscience in May 2021. His untimely death left his family and friends mourning the loss of a bright and promising young man.
