On August 9, 2022, at approximately 6 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3500 block of North Leland Avenue, situated near East 36th Street and Emerson Avenue on the city's east side. Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Marshal Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
