In the early evening of August 9, 2022, on the east side of Indianapolis, the life of 27-year-old Marshal Jones was tragically cut short. Responding to reports of a shooting in the 3500 block of North Leland Avenue, near East 36th Street and Emerson Avenue, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived to find Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office later officially identified him and ruled his death a homicide.
Shortly after the discovery of Jones, another individual arrived at Eskenazi Hospital with gunshot injuries. Investigators believe this person was wounded during the same incident on Leland Avenue. This individual was reported to be awake and breathing, but further details about their condition were not released.
