The first suspect, identified as 21-year-old Jarvis Sanders, was apprehended just a week after the fatal shooting. Investigators believe Sanders was the one who fired the weapon that killed Davis. As the case progressed, a more unexpected figure emerged as a person of interest. David Finley, a 42-year-old former police officer with the Gary Police Department, was arrested on October 31, 2022. Finley, whose tenure with the police department had ended in 2012 due to federal gun and drug charges for which he was convicted and served time, found himself once again on the wrong side of the law.
Prosecutors have alleged that David Finley played a crucial role in the events leading to Davis's death. He is accused of driving Jarvis Sanders on the night of the murder.
