Private Walker W. Campbell, a dedicated officer of the Alexandria Police Department, tragically lost his life on February 16, 1919, succumbing to injuries sustained from a gunshot wound two days earlier. Campbell, aged 50, was on duty in the 500 block of King Street when he and his partner arrested a man for throwing a flask into the street.
