In the winter of 1919, the city of Alexandria, Virginia, was unsettled by the loss of one of its own. Private Walker W. Campbell, a White male officer of the Alexandria Police Department, succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound on February 16, 1919. The dedicated officer's life was cut short as a result of an injury he sustained in the line of duty two days prior, on February 14, 1919.
