In the summer of 1999, what began as a high school graduation party at a community clubhouse in Herndon, Virginia, ended in a violent confrontation that left 16-year-old James 'Jay' Harris Randall fatally wounded. On the evening of June 12, Randall and a 21-year-old friend, Robert Clay, arrived uninvited at the Four Seasons community clubhouse where a celebration was being held for Shauntai Bennett. A physical altercation broke out, leading to Randall and Clay being ejected from the party.
