In a tragic and sudden escalation of a street-side confrontation, 39-year-old Jason Hann, a male, lost his life in Herndon, Virginia. The fatal encounter unfolded on the evening of May 23, 2025, in the 300 block of Elden Street, near a shopping center. Initial reports to the Herndon Police Department described a disorderly man jumping in and out of the roadway, seemingly attempting to stop traffic.
This man was later identified as Jason Hann.
The situation took a deadly turn when Hann reportedly jumped in front of a silver Tesla and began kicking the vehicle. The driver of the Tesla, 18-year-old Kianmehr Shirinipaziziba of McLean, reacted by firing a single shot from a Glock 9mm handgun, which struck Hann. Immediately following the shooting, Shirinipaziziba himself called 911 to report the incident. He remained at the scene and was taken into custody by responding officers without incident. Police recovered two firearms from his vehicle. Hann was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have indicated that the two men did not appear to know each other prior to this fatal meeting.
Following the incident, Kianmehr Shirinipaziziba was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was subsequently charged with several additional felonies, including use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless handling of a firearm, discharge of a firearm in a public space, and shooting from a vehicle. Shirinipaziziba is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. His attorney has stated that his client acted in self-defense. According to court documents, Shirinipaziziba told police that he shot Hann after Hann kicked his car's mirror and appeared to reach for his waistband. Witnesses confirmed seeing Hann behaving erratically and kicking at a vehicle. The case is proceeding through the legal system, with a court appearance for Shirinipaziziba scheduled for August 18, 2025.
