On a cold winter’s night in Dumfries, Virginia, the lives of two young men were tragically cut short. Romanno Avellino Head, a 22-year-old male, and his friend, Robert I. Morrison, also 22, were inside an apartment in the 3400 block of Allerton Court on January 2, 2002. The evening turned violent when all three men present were shot in the head in what police would later describe as likely being a drug-related assassination.
Head and Morrison succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
A third man, who was 22 at the time, was critically wounded but managed to survive and call for help. For his own protection, authorities did not publicly release his name. The shooting occurred in the Princeton Woods community, a relatively new apartment development at the time, leaving residents in shock.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, Prince William County police began an intensive investigation. They acknowledged a concerning trend of drug-related violence in the county, with several recent murders having similar motives. Despite their efforts and the presence of a surviving witness, law enforcement officials stated that they had no suspects in the killings of Head and Morrison. The case eventually went cold, and publicly available information has not indicated that any arrests have ever been made or that any suspects have been formally identified in the years that have passed since that fatal night.
