Javon Alberto Williams, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in a violent home invasion in Dumfries, Virginia. The incident, which also claimed the life of 22-year-old Alyssa Trynese Gainey, unfolded late in the evening at a residence on Isle Royale Terrace. When Prince William County police officers responded to reports of gunfire around 11:15 p.m., they discovered both Williams and Gainey in the basement of the home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Gainey was pronounced dead at the scene, while Williams was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after several hours of surgery. A pitbull mix at the residence was also shot during the attack and subsequently had to be euthanized.
The investigation swiftly led to a suspect, Desmond Malcolm Daniel, a 24-year-old from Woodbridge who had been in a previous relationship with Gainey. Evidence, including Ring camera footage, revealed that Daniel had shot through a basement window to gain entry, fired at the victims, and then fled. In the hours leading up to the shooting, Daniel had reportedly posted videos and written messages on social media that showed him with firearms and making threats against the victims.
Authorities located and arrested Daniel without incident in the early morning hours of the following day at Dulles International Airport, where he had purchased a one-way ticket to Panama. He was subsequently charged with two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and one count of entering a dwelling to commit murder. On October 16, 2023, Desmond Daniel pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. He was later sentenced to an active term of 80 years in prison.
