In the summer of 2005, a tragic event unfolded in a quiet neighborhood in Chesapeake, Virginia, forever altering the lives of three families. On the evening of June 7th, 23-year-old Motty Toxey, a male, was found murdered alongside his friends, Nathaniel Huggins III and Andre Jackson, both also 23. The grim discovery was made inside Huggins' home located in the 500 block of Marcus Street.
All three young men had been shot.
The scene was discovered after a concerned family member of Huggins grew worried when a phone call with him abruptly ended after loud bangs were heard. Unable to get back in touch, family members went to the residence to check on him, only to be confronted with the horrific sight of the three deceased friends. They immediately contacted the police, who arrived at approximately 9:40 p.m. and pronounced all three victims dead at the scene. Friends and family described the young men as polite individuals who had grown up together, sharing a passion for music and a history of attending church.
Despite the years that have passed, the case of this triple homicide remains a cold case, with no arrests having been made. The Chesapeake Police Department continues to investigate the murders. Investigators have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. A person of interest was described as a Black male with a short afro, who was seen exiting a dark-colored SUV with custom wheels in the vicinity of the crime scene around 9:00 p.m. on the night of the murders. He was reportedly wearing dark-colored pants and a white t-shirt.
The community continues to hold out hope for justice for Motty Toxey and his two friends. A reward of up to $1,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in connection with this unsolved triple homicide. The Chesapeake Police Department encourages anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist in bringing closure to the families who have waited for answers for over a decade and a half.
