On April 13, 2025, Jesse Andre Thomas, a 57-year-old African American man from Portsmouth, Virginia, was fatally shot in Chesapeake. The incident occurred around 2:13 p.m. in the 2300 block of Angler Lane, located in the Deep Creek South neighborhood. Responding officers found Mr. Thomas with life-threatening injuries; he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
