On a spring evening in Chesapeake, Virginia, the life of Lionel Bird L. Phillips, a 53-year-old Black / African American male, was brought to a tragic and abrupt end. On May 15, 2012, Phillips was fatally shot inside a residence in the South Norfolk borough of the city. The incident led to the arrest of the homeowner, 89-year-old John Boyd.
