Christopher Bailey, a 22-year-old man from Portsmouth, Virginia, was killed in mid-June 2009 after a gunshot attack that ended on the 3000 block of Kemet Road in Chesapeake. In the warm, late-night quiet of that neighborhood, someone fired the shots that took him down, and by the time the violence stopped, there was nothing ordinary left to return to—only the abrupt, cruel divide between the minutes before and the minutes after.
